19 May 2013: The mac and cheese with tofu and roasted asparagus and garlic I made for dinner tonight. Both yummy and photo-worthy, but the real reason the photo is notable is what happened after I took it.
Phyllo usually loves carbs, so I hid the mac & cheese with tofu from him. But I left the roasted asparagus to cool on the counter. You see where this is going? I left the kitchen briefly and came back to find Phyllo on the floor, looking guilty, with an asparagus spear in his mouth. When he saw me coming towards him to take it away, he grabbed it and started running away from me around and around the kitchen island! I finally caught up with him and managed to get it away, but not without a fight. He had that thing in his teeth and would not let go! I wish I had video of the asparagus chase!
18 May 2013: Bodo’s, a happy refuge from UVA commencement crowds
17 May 2013: Order is restored!
14 May 2013: It pays to eat with friends of the owner! I’m sure that the arrival of the Moroccan-spiced oranges at our table had nothing to do with me, but I appreciated them just the same.
20 Apr 2013: I was happy to have date night with B.; he was happy to have ice cream. :)
18 Apr 2013: Julia brought in soy chorizo with French lentils — très yum!
8 Feb 2013: We tried to eat at Noodles & Co., but long lines sent us away to dinner with K. and G. at Taste of China
4 Feb 2013: Not only did my lunch leftovers not make it home to the fridge, but there’s not much else in the fridge at this point either!
25 Jan 2013: Root vegetables with kohlrabi, preserved lemon, and Parmesan crisps: dear god, I love Aziza! (So much so that after we both devoured every morsel of their tasting menu on our first night in San Francisco, Bill suggested we go back for dinner again the next night. AND WE DID.)
16 Jan 2013: I’d never been to Great Harvest Bread Company, but leave it to Jeanie to take me someplace with yummy food! (Man, I was in love with the combination of the pimento cheese sandwich and Rev Soup’s peanut tofu soup.)
11 Jan 2013: Our second gift installment arrived from Emily and Shawn. Well-timed tropical fruit before their imminent wedding in Hawaii!
8 Jan 2013: My new plate arrived today. :)
6 Jan 2013: I was lucky to receive several new cookbooks off my wishlist for Christmas, so today we tried out some new recipes. This one — a bulgur pilaf with fennel, garlic, yellow onions, golden raisins, and toasted pine nuts — was yummy enough that Bill immediately declared it one of his favorite things I’ve ever cooked, ranked up there with “the purple stuff” (blackberry and purple basil cobbler) and “88 tomato salad.” He’s seeking a new name for the recipe, since he deemed “bulgur pilaf” too ordinary.
